calligraphy

At the beginning of 2014, I started to teach myself calligraphy. It's a craft that I've long wanted to know, but never really knew where to start. I'm definitely not strong on design or drawing, but I can write!

So, I set out to learn and took Molly Jacque's Skillshare class (which was incredibly helpful). The class walks you through everything about calligraphy, starting with your tools and ending with using different color inks. The class has really given me the confidence to just grab my nib and keep trying. During my first few days of practicing, I started to fall in love with the art. It's so soothing and relaxing. I could do it all day, every day. And for about 6 months, I practiced every day!

Now, I've been working on improving my calligraphy and expanding on my hand lettering. I've started using a Sharpie (yes, a Sharpie) and focusing intently on forming each letter and concentrating on filling in white spaces between the letters, etc. I can get sucked into it and forget what time it is.

What new craft are you learning lately?
